Brandon Day 1

I have arrived in Brandon & have completed my first two games of the tournament.
I am the crew chief with Andre Jean from BC & Peter Perreault from Manitoba; all three of us are working our second national. Overall the event has a very experienced crew with only three rookies.
We had the early two games today between Edmonton Cardinals & Saskatoon Braves & then the battle of White Sox between Regina & Spruce Grove. I worked two bases.
The Edmonton was beat 14-4. The game was long and didn’t really have anything happen. There were a lot of pitching changes, due to the pitch count. The game did not have many incidents occur, and we got away unscathed. It was only 9 degrees at game time.
The second game was not much more exciting with a 13-3 score. Spruce Grove got a walk off sac fly to end the game. This game also featured a number of pitching changes. Spruce Grove got a lot of baserunners.
The diamond we worked on is very unique in that it is 275 all the way around. I do not think there will be many balls hit down the lines for home runs. We did have one hit straight away in the early game. We work all 5 of our round robin games on this diamond. This diamond is part of a quad of diamonds, which have a seating area which is covered to protect the fans from fly balls, when the other three diamonds are also going.
The park overall is quite beautiful. The two diamonds we are playing on have a grass infield. The other diamond is just off of left field. It is a bit shorter at 250 to all parts of the yard.
I am currently enjoying my just over 25 hour break between games. I have the plate at 2:30 tomorrow before working 3rd base for the 5:30 game. I will wrap my round robin up with a plate at 11:30 Saturday morning. We will have placement games Saturday afternoon, before the Semi-Finals & Medal games on Sunday.
